What does it take to truly heal?
Patience, courage, commitment, and the willingness to let go
The patients that I see in my practice are what I would consider typical chronic disease patients: they’ve been ailed by symptoms for decades, one condition often following the next in an endless, ever-lengthening trail of disease, and their other doctors don’t know what to do with them. These patients are often considered to have “unexplained” conditions, and are commonly given suppressive treatments (drugs like antacids, antidepressants, birth control pills, steroids, etc) that oppose the body’s natural wisdom. Not surprisingly, patients don’t get better and don’t know what to do because they’re not offered proper guidance by the conventional medical establishment.
—Bio-Regulatory Medicine—
Enter naturopathic medicine, specifically bio-regulatory medicine: a philosophy of medicine that understands physiology, and utilizes natural remedies and deep testing methods to determine and address the true root of the problem (which often started in our childhood or even preconception).
It’s occurred to me that most people might not know exactly how long it takes to truly heal using these deep bio-regulatory principles. I think this is likely because of the society that we live in, and the fact that quick fixes are sensationalized, shamelessly advertised, and readily available—often without leaving the cushy comfort of your home.
The societal norm of suppressing symptoms and striving for a quick fix is disastrous for true healing, because true healing takes an extraordinary amount of time, patience, courage, and commitment. Suppressive treatments and band-aid remedies do nothing more than push the disease further into your tissues and ultimately result in a more chronic and far more severe condition.
—The Healing Process—
In order to truly heal, you must have the courage to feel emotions that are uncomfortable, experience symptoms that might not be ideal, and dive deep into your subconscious to clean it all out. This might sound straightforward on paper, but the process of true healing takes years, so patience is key. Above all else, you must be willing to let go of the thoughts, people, and memories that don’t serve your healing process.
The style of medicine that I practice, bio-regulatory medicine, is exquisitely designed for healing in this manner. Every single patient has a unique history which requires an individualized approach. This is what I love about what I do—every case is its own special puzzle, but the end of the road is always a dazzling balance of physiology and an understanding of how to live by the laws of nature.
Balance is something that requires time, work, and perseverance. If you are suffering from a chronic disease, you have to recognize that you didn’t get there overnight, and no matter how good any one medicine is, nothing can reverse decades of physiological imbalance in a matter of months. I’m here to support every patient in finding and maintaining ideal health for the next 40 years. Are you ready to put in the work?
